Office Environment/Address: Hybrid – 50% of time in office (2020 Center Street, Cleveland, OH ) and 50% of time from home
Job Summary: The Development Manager will be responsible for visioning and executing fundraising efforts including memberships, sponsorships, individual donations, etc. S/he will develop and nurture corporate and community partners for the purposes of fundraising and to elevate the profile of the organization in the community. As a small organization, the position requires you to wear many hats and shift directions often throughout the day.
Primary Responsibilities
Memberships
- Develop a pipeline of membership prospects in the for-profit and non-profit sectors
- Reach out to prospects via email and meetings to bring on new members
- Develop and build relationships with members through check-in meetings
- Manage all aspects of employer membership program, including in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, on-boarding, and training
- Maintain a comprehensive CRM system of current and potential members
- Track all outreach through CRM system.
- Coordinate tax receipting with accountant
Sponsorships
- Develop content for annual sponsorship brochure for all events and work with Marketing Manager on design
- Develop a pipeline of sponsorship prospects
- Develop and build relationships with sponsors through check-in meetings
- Manage all aspects of sponsorships working with Event Manager
- Track all outreach through CRM system.
- Coordinate tax receipting with accountant
Partnerships
- Research, prospect and manage a list of in-kind partnerships
Board/Committee Management
- Manage the development and employer relations committees of the Board of Directors and the Leadership Council including preparing agendas, taking attendance, writing memos, preparing/giving presentations and follow-up notes
- Conduct meetings with members of each committee to assist in development efforts
- Encourage board participation in fundraising activities and introductions to decision makers
Event Support
- Day of support for events and programs including handling logistics, registration table, etc.
- Presenting and public speaking including providing brief remarks at events
- Welcoming and thanking sponsors at events
- Updating and presenting signature presentations and events
CRM System
- Owner of CRM System including adding prospects, running reports, updating/removing constituents, creating/updating forms, tracking all development activities, etc.
Banking/Accounting
- Makes bank deposits of checks assisting President and Accountant including copying and emailing.
- Follows up on outstanding accounts receivable by mailing or emailing invoices.
- Track all monies received in CRM System
Foundations (limited)
- Research, draft, submit, and manage grant proposals to philanthropic and corporate organizations who match the organization’s mission
- Develop and build relationship with philanthropic community through face-to-face meetings
Other
- Advise the President and Board of Directors of new developments in the field, or potential new opportunities
- Complete a yearly performance evaluation including goals and objectives for the coming year
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to excel presenting one-on-one, as well as, to large groups
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of how to operate standard business equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, CRM systems required.
- Available to work outside of normal work hours on occasion up to a few times each month.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, sales, etc. required.
- Nonprofit experience highly desired.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in development field with a proven track record of fundraising success.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
